KINDERGARTEN – 2nd GRADE LESSONS

 Grade Level  Summary  Resources
2nd Grade Ratasha R. McCabe, MVES  Simple Machines:Through building a model car using a LEGO kit, students will identify components and characteristics of a system. This lesson also affords the opportunity to reinforce reading of informational text standards and skills while being introduced to the career of automotive engineer.
1st Grade Jennifer White, CDCES   Science is a broad field that encompasses many careers. Many students do not realize that science is more than a person in lab coat. When students are exposed to specific fields within science in a fun interactive manner it can pique their interest and broaden their understanding of science.

3rd – 6th GRADE LESSONS

Grade Level  Lesson Plan Summary  Resources
3rd Grade Rolenthea Begay-Schmidt, CES  Air Engines: Through the creation of an air engine model:

  • Students will observe how unequal pressure creates power.
  • Students will explain that air power can help airplanes fly.
  • Students will construct a working model of an air engine.
6th Grade Ervin Tom, TPS  Spegetti Tower:Through an activity where students construct a spaghetti and marshmallow tower students will apply math standards related to classifying two dimensional figures and understanding attributes of them and their subcategories. They will have career exposure to the field of civil engineering and the activity will test student’s design and building of a tower. They will be have time to design the structure first and then build it to their design. The team with the tallest tower will be the winners.
5th Grade Jennifer White, CDCES  Science is a broad field that encompasses many careers. Many students do not realize that science is more than a person in lab coat. When students are exposed to specific fields within science in a fun interactive manner it can pique their interest and broaden their understanding of science.
3rd-5th Grade Treva Sells-Yazzie, MFPS  Students will identify several constellations through hands on activities, Navajo Cultural connections and technology. Careers in earth and space science will be highlighted.

7th – 8th GRADE LESSONS

Grade Level  Lesson Plan Summary  Resources
7th Grade Darwin Clauschee, CJHS Baseball Math:Using the career cluster of sports science, students will use speed formula and Internet speed /distance time calculator to determine M.P.H. or miles/hour – a relatable rate since they drive with their families and see posted speed limits in varied areas. Students will come to realize the value of data collected and how it compares to peers and units they comprehend like M.P.H. or miles/hour.
8th Grade Jennifer White, CDCES   Science is a broad field that encompasses many careers. Many students do not realize that science is more than a person in lab coat. When students are exposed to specific fields within science in a fun interactive manner it can pique their interest and broaden their understanding of science.
8th Grade Florence Hendren, CJHS  Students will describe forces as interactions between bodies through the context of a project where they will build a geodesic dome using newspapers.
7th-8th Grade Corey Whitney, CJHS  Students will create 3D figures and calculate volume using K’Nex. Career applications for geometry will be explored through pharmaceutical science, automotive and design careers.
